Singareni to step up coal production

In addition to its ambitious endeavour to achieve the annual coal production target of 60.3 million tonnes for the current fiscal, the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has mooted a slew of initiatives for the welfare of its workforce and cause of unemployed youth of the coal-belt region and greenery.

After hoisting the national flag at the Telangana State Formation Day ceremony at Prakasam Stadium in Kothagudem on Tuesday, the SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Sridhar listed out a series of initiatives taken by the company to step up coal production, foray into power generation and ensure employees’ welfare. Referring to the State government’s plans to set up new thermal plants totaling 6000 MW under the aegis of the TSGenco in the next four years, he reminded the SCCL’s workforce of the challenging task ahead to meet the coal needs of the proposed new power plants of the TS Genco as well as that of the SCCL in the pipeline.

Appreciating the concerted efforts of the employees, he said the company achieved the stipulated coal production target in the last fiscal. The company could produce 92.17 lakh tonnes of coal in the first two months of the current fiscal owing to the spirited production endeavour of the workforce, he complimented. A plan is on the anvil to upgrade canteens and improve the quality of the menu besides, providing modern toilet facilities for the staff of the coalmines.

Efforts are on to fill up the backlog vacancies with the eligible tribal youths of the Scheduled Areas, he said, adding that 2,103 candidates were provided jobs under the Dependent Employment Scheme till the end of May this year. The remaining 641 candidates will be provided jobs under the scheme by July-August this year.

Apart from this, the company has initiated a major recruitment process to fill up 3,156 posts through external and internal modes. He said a career guidance programme titled “Singareni Animutyalu” will be launched soon for the unemployed youths of the coal-belt region. The company has drawn up an action plan to plant around 40 lakh saplings under ‘Haritha Haram’ programme this year.
