Six tractors with 13 tonnes of illegal coal seized

06 Feb 2019

The Bokaro police continuing anti-coal smuggling drive on Monday and Tuesday seized six tractors with loaded with 13 tonnes of illegal coal and also made accused three persons involved in the illegal trade under the Pannak police station here.

Inspector, Nawadih Police Station, Laxamikant said that the coals seized in six tractors are weighed 13 tonnes which cost more than Rs 80,000.

The Inspector said that the six tractors ferrying illegal coal were caught by a police team at Mungorangamati area in Nawadih block on Tuesday morning. The coal was loaded in the tractors near abandoned mines under the Pannak-Narayanpur Police Station and was being transported to other destinations.

Three coal smugglers managed to escape during the raid, police said. Bokaro Superintendent of Police P.Murugan said that he instructed all police stations to stop illegal mining and transportation in the district or otherwise be ready to face the music. Economic crime will not be tolerated in the area, said Murugan.

Laxamikant said that they may conduct raids at the spot where coal is excavated in Nawadih block, but it is instruction of higher officials to concentrate on curbing illegal coal transportation first. Though the entire Nawadih block area is Maoist affected  and covered with thick forests, he added.
