Slight fall in CIL’s January coal despatches m-o-m

March 2: Despatches of coal by Coal India Ltd (CIL) stood at 44.06 million tons (mt) in January 2015 against 43.88 mt recorded in December, 2014, showing an increase of 0.41%, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The despatches in January 2015 were, however, marginally lower compared to the target of 49.89 mt and 44.40 mt despatched in January 2014.

Of the total despatches during January, 2015, those to the power sector were at 34.76 mt (35.23 mt in December 2014), to the steel sector at 0.64 mt (0.56 mt in December 2014), cement sector at 0.48 mt (0.51 mt) and fertiliser companies at 0.20 mt (0.19 mt).

The company had despatched 34.02 mt, 0.67 mt, 0.51 mt and 0.18 mt, respectively to the power, steel, cement and fertiliser sectors in January 2014.

With the despatches in January, CIL’s total despatches during the first 10 months of 2014-15 (April – January) stood at 398.32 mt as against the target of 426.23 mt and 385.89 mt despatched during the corresponding period of 2013-14.

During the first 10 months of 2014-15, the company’s despatches to the power sector stood at 315.14 mt, as against the target of 332.49 mt, but up from 290.17 mt despatched during the same period of 2013-14.

Despatches to the steel sector during the 10-month period stood at 5.59 mt, down from 6.50 mt in the corresponding period of previous year. Despatches to cement sector during the period stood at 4.49 mt, up marginally from 4.46 mt despatched in the corresponding period of 2013-14.

However, despatches to the fertiliser sector fell to 1.82 mt during the first 10 months of 2014-15 as against 1.89 mt despatched last year.

Despatches to other sectors, meanwhile fell sharply to 71.27 mt between April and January of 2014-15 from 82.88 mt despatched during the corresponding period of 2013-14.
