Spot prices of standard South African steam coal inched up on June 16 on fresh enquiries, market sources said.
There appears to be a mixed reading of the future price trend among market participants as a section of them feels that the firmness would continue notwithstanding the movement in crude oil prices, while others feel crude oil prices are likely to soften and this might impact steam coal prices.
Following are indicative prices of coal in various markets and indicative freight rates (Panamax vessels) on June 16:
