April 7: Washery grade coking coal (W2, W3, W4) offered by two CIL subsidiaries – BCCL and CCL – in March on coaljunction platform met with comparatively poor response on low demand from steel makers, but prices rose a bit on reduction in offered quantity.
Of the total offered quantity of 197,100 during the month, 177,980 tons or 90% of the offered quantity was allotted. In February 2015, the entire offered quantity of 259,450 tons got allotted.
However, the average weighted realised price in March rose to Rs 4,190 per ton from Rs 3,755 per ton February largely on account of reduced offering, industry sources said.
Washery grade coking coal offered on the platform in January 2015 had also met with very good demand as the entire offered quantity of 145,150 tons of coal got allotted during the month. The weighted average price of the allotted quantity during the month stood at Rs 3,587/ton. W2 was not offered in January 2015.
