January 31: A sluggish trend was seen in the international coal markets on January 30 amidst limited deals as participants maintained a low profile, industry sources said.
Chinese buyers are out of the market due to their Lunar New Year holidays whereas enquiries from other countries are on the lower side, they added.
Prices moved in a narrow range for most varieties and origins of coal, they said.
Coking coal too remained soft despite expectations of a spurt in prices after Cyclone Dylan hit Australian costs that affected loading at Dalrymple Bay, Hay Point and Mackay, but did not impact Newcastle.
