January 9: Spot prices continued to ease in international coal markets on January 8 as a rout in crude oil prices added to the debilitating effects of a weak demand and oversupply situation, market sources said.
Australian steam coal prices, however, showed slight increase even as yet another coal project (Grande Cache coal mine) reported lack of viability due to the low prices.
The sources said that spot steam coal prices are unlikely to see any significant upturn in at least the next three-six months.
