Mild softness was witnessed in international coal markets on April 19 in the aftermath of the settlement of annual coal contracts by Japanese utilities and Glencore a day earlier on April 18 although the settlement price was slightly higher than expectations, market sources said.
Sporadic enquiries are coming from Indian buyers for South African standard coal even as some of them are finding off-spec material to be still attractive, they added.
However, restricted enquiries from European buyers for South African coal in view of lower prices of Colombian coal is weighing on the former, they said.
