Solar energy plant to power Central Jail

In a bid to conserve energy, ensure uninterrupted power supply and strengthen security, Central Jail authorities here have started working on plan to tap solar energy. The move is aimed at reducing electricity bills and utilizing the money saved to make improvements in prison.
Jailor Lal Ratnakar Singh told TOI, "We are in the process of setting up a solar power plant in Central Jail to meet the electricity requirement in an eco friendly manner.
Every month, jail authorities pay between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 11 lakh as electricity bill. Solar Power It is expected that the installation of a solar plant will significantly decrease the expenses on electricity.
It will be beneficial for the jail in many ways. A large section of the jail in engulfed in darkness during power cuts. This poses a risk to the security of the prison. Elderly prisoners would be able to avail of warm water during winter. The dough-making machine installed in the jail kitchen will also be run with solar power.
