A firmness was witnessed in both South African and Australian steam coal prices on March 29 even as Indonesian prices remained unchanged, market sources said.
The firmness was largely on account of a tendency among participants to jack up prices towards end of the month as the number of actual deals remained on the lower side, they said.
However, a section of traders feels that Indian consumers of imported coal, who are expecting prices to correct downwards, may start increasing their purchases for stocking for the monsoon season once the prices stabilised a bit, they added.
