South Africa’s 2015-16 coal exports edge up 0.67%

Total exports of coal through South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) during financial year 2015-16 increased by a marginal 0.67% to 74,199,747 tons compared to 73,703,771 tons recorded in the previous fiscal, according to data available with ICMW.
Meanwhile, the total exports of coal via RBCT during Q4 (January-March) of financial year 2015-16 decreased by 6.35% to 17,330,822 tons compared to 18,505,040 tons recorded in Q4 of the previous fiscal.
On the other hand, total exports of coal through RBCT in March 2016 stood at 6,302,383 tons, showing a rise of 0.68% from 6,260,043 tons exported during the same month of 2015.
Similarly, the exports in March 2016 were up 30.45% on a month-on-month basis compared to 4,831,131 tons in February 2016.
Of the total exports in March 2016, 60.46% went to India alone.
The total exports of coal through the terminal in calendar 2015 stood at 75.37 million tons (mt), registering an increase of 5.93% compared to 71.16 mt exported in 2014.
India accounted for nearly 47.47% of total coal exports through the terminal in 2015 and 42.40% of the total 71.16 mt exported in 2014.
