South Africa’s 2015 coal exports up 5.93%

The total export of coal through South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) in calendar year 2015 stood at 75,373,965, up 5.93% compared to 71,157,368 tons exported in 2014, according to data available with ICMW.
Of the total export during the year, as much as 47.47% or 35,787,468 tons went to India alone. India had accounted for only 42.40% of total export from the terminal in 2014 at 30,172,463 tons.
Total coal exports through RBCT in December 2015 stood at 7,265,662 tons against 6,412,936 tons exported in November, up 13.29% month-on-month.
Total coal exports through the terminal in the first nine months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 (April-December) stood at 56,868,925 tons, compared to 55,198,731 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal, showing an increase of 3.03% year-on-year over the same period.
December 2015 imports were down 7.67% compared to 7,869,115 tons seen in the same month of the previous fiscal.
