South Africa’s February coal exports down 22% y-o-y

The total exports of coal through South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) in February 2016 stood at 4,831,131 tons, showing a fall of 22.30% from 6,217,295 tons exported during the same month of 2015, according to data available with ICMW.
Similarly, the exports in February 2016 were, down 22.04% on a month-on-month basis compared to 7,265,662 tons exported in January 2016.
Of the total exports in February 2016, 44.08% went to India alone.
The total exports of coal through the terminal in calendar 2015 stood at 75.37 million tons (mt), registering an increase of 5.93% compared to 71.16 mt exported in 2014.
India accounted for nearly 47.47% of total coal exports through the terminal in 2015 and 42.40% of the total 71.16 mt exported in 2014.
The total coal exports through the terminal in the first 11 months of financial year 2015-16 (April-February) increased by 9.53% to 67,897,364 tons compared to 61,991,579 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal.
