South Africa’s coal exports up 53.79% m-o-m in March

April 8: Aided by increased demand from India and Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (ARA), total coal exports through South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) rose in March after declining for two consecutive months in 2014, according to data made available to ICMW by one of the promoters of the terminal.
Exports from RBCT in March 2014 increased 53.79% to 6,901,887 tons compared to 4,487,674 tons exported in February 2014.
However, exports from RBCT in March 2014 were lower by 7.8% compared to 7,490,334 tons recorded in March 2013.
During the first quarter of 2014 (January-March), coal exports through RBCT dropped almost 7% to 15,958,637 tons compared to 17,155,802 tons in the same period of 2013.
Earlier, exports in February had fallen by 1.78% from 4,569,076 tons in January 2014.
