South Africa’s total Oct coal exports up 29% m-o-m

November 18: Total coal exports through South Africa’s (SA’s) RBCT in October 2015 stood at 7,546,596 tons against 5,833,462 tons reported in September, up 29.36% month-on-month, according to data available with ICMW.

 Total coal exports through the terminal in the first seven months of the current fiscal of 2015-16 (April-October), stood at 43,326,753 tons, compared to 40,217,371 tons recorded in the same period of the previous fiscal, showing an increase of 7.73% year-on-year over the same period.

October 2015 imports were up 18.11% compared to 6,389,015 tons in the same month in the previous fiscal (October 2014).

South Africa’s coal exports via RBCT during the first 10 months of 2015 rose by 10.15% to 61,881,946 tons from 56,176,008 tons seen during the same period of 2014.

The rise in total exports over January-October could be on account of the fact that India’s share in the total exports rose to 47.89% compared to 42.35% seen in the same period of the previous calendar.

 Also, this percentage (47.89%) is marginally higher compared to India’s share of 47.88% of total exports in the first nine months (January-September) of 2015.
