Spare parts delay impacting CIL production

February 27: Delay in supply of spare parts by the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) is impacting coal production by the mining subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd (CIL), company sources said.

“There is prolonged delay in supply of equipment or spares by many of the equipment manufacturers. This adversely affects maintenance of equipment and thus coal production,” CIL officials said in a recent interaction with the equipment manufacturers in New Delhi.

The subsidiaries that raised the spare parts issue include Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) and Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL).

It was suggested that all HEMMs should be supplied with guaranteed spare parts and maintenance and repair contracts for lifetime. The companies also suggested changes in tender clauses to safeguard their interest.
