February 09: The spot prices of South African steam coal spurted on February 06 amidst speculative deals taking a cue from firmness in paper markets, market sources said.
Australian steam coal prices fell sharply whereas Indonesian varieties remained largely weak, they said.
A weakness in freight rates on ample availability of vessels amidst limited cargo also appears to be not helping the sentiment as buyers continue to expect further softness in prices and were reluctant to bid higher rates, they added.
