Steam coal imports via Kandla fall 14.39% in August

September 6: Steam coal import through the port of Kandla stood at 633,912 tons in August, down 14.39% from 740,430 tons imported in July, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The import of steam coal import through the port during first five months of FY'14 stood at 3,089,726 tons while it stood at 1,387,622 tons during same period last year.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Kandla port:

During August 2013, 507,612 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,680-Rs 7,513 ($44-$121) per ton while 126,300 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,595-Rs 6,544 ($91-$100) per ton.
However, in July 2013, 627,254 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,427-Rs 4,821($40-$80), 4,000 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 6,428 ($109) per ton while the rest of 109,176 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,667-Rs 6,112 ($96-$101) per ton.
