Steam coal imports via Kandla fall 58.08% in Nov

December 19: Steam coal import through the port of Kandla stood at 262,250 tons in November, down 58.08% from 625,562 tons imported in October.
The import of steam coal through the port during the first eight months (April-November) of FY’14 stood at 4,672,300 tons while the same stood at 2,411,134 tons during the same period last year.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Kandla port:

In November 2013, 2,000 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 5,565 ($88) per ton, 42,000 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,998-Rs 6,275 ($79-$101) per ton while 218, 250 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,701-Rs 4,837 ($43-$77) per ton.
However, during October 2013, 75,000 tons came from Chile at a price of Rs 4,261 ($68) per ton, 397,171 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,677-Rs 5,260 ($43-$85) per ton, 7,000 tons came from Mozambique at a price range of Rs 5,581-Rs 6,161 ($89-$99) per ton while 146,391 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,052-Rs 7,681 ($81-$123) per ton.
