Steam coal imports via Kandla up 35.85% in Jan m-o-m

February 25: Steam coal import through the port of Kandla stood at 391,488 tons in January, up 35.85% from 288,186 tons imported in December.

The import of steam coal through the port during the first 10 months (April-January) of FY’14 stood at 5,351,974 tons while the same stood at 3,132,676 tons during the same period last year.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Kandla Port:

In January 2014, 286,807 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,289-Rs 5,395 ($37-$87) per ton, 3,000 tons from Mozambique at a price of Rs 5,493 ($88) per ton, 101,681 tons from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,335-Rs 6,290 ($86-$101) per ton.

However, during December 2013, 209,427 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,594-Rs 5,210 ($42-$82) per ton while 78,759 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,919-Rs 6,525 ($79-$105) per ton.
