Total imports of steam coal through Karaikal Port during 2015-16 (April-March) stood at 1,650,954 tons against 360,793 tons imported between November and March 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
ICMW does not have data for the first seven months (April-October) of 2014-15.
In March 2016, steam coal imports via Karaikal Port stood at 387,781 tons, up 13.0%, from 343,728 tons reported in February 2015.

In March 2016, a volume of 25,000 tons came from Australia at a unit price of Rs 3,534 ($51) per ton, 352,781 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,689-Rs 3,744 ($40-$48) per ton and 10,000 tons from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 3,948 ($59).
In February 2016, a volume of 10,000 tons came from Australia at a price range of Rs 3,506-Rs 3,509 ($51) per ton, 313,728 tons from Indonesia at Rs 3,230-Rs 3,807 ($47-$55) per ton and 20,000 tons from South Africa at a range of Rs 3,974-Rs 4,003 ($58) per ton.
