Steam coal imports via Kolkata drop 24.64% m-o-m in Dec

January 9: Steam coal imports through the port of Kolkata dropped 24.64% to 60,326 tons in December 2013 against 80,060 tons reported in November, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, steam coal imports via Kolkata during the first nine months of 2013-14 stood at 1,724,209 tons against 1,381,832 tons registered in the same period last year in 2012, showing a rise of 24%.
Imports of the commodity in December 2012 were at 238,002 tons, revealing a huge year-on-year drop in December this fiscal. Total imports in 2012-13 amounted to 1,696,998 tons.

In December, 54702 tons were imported from Indonesia at a unit price of Rs 5,499 ($88) while the balance 5,624 tons were imported from South Africa at a price band of Rs 6,161 – Rs 5,679 ($99-$91) per ton.
In November 2013, 4,000 tons arrived from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 6,060 ($96) and the balance 76,060 came in from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,900 – Rs 5,144 (46-$82) per ton.
