October 28: Steam coal imports through the port of Kolkata fell by 52.44% to 96,730 tons in September 2013 compared to 203,365 tons in August 2013, as per provisional data available with ICMW.
With this, steam coal imports via Kolkata during the first six (April-August) months of 2013-14 stood at 1,570,021 tons as against 881,702 tons in the same period last year (April-September) 2012.
The import of September 2013, however, was up from 66,898 tons in September 2012.
Total imports in 2012-13 amounted to 1,696,998 tons.

In september2013, 90,730 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs3,161 – Rs 4,575 ($48 -$72 ) per ton and 6,000 tons came in from South Africa in a price range of Rs 5,799 – Rs 6,216 ($91-$93) per ton.
However, in August 2013, 199,365 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,553 – Rs 4,602 ($41-$75) per ton and 4,000 tons came in from South Africa in a price range of Rs 6093 – Rs 6,551 ($99-$106) per ton.
