Steam coal imports via Kolkata sharply fall 85.73% in Oct

November 11: Steam coal imports through the port of Kolkata fell by a sharp 85.73% to 13,802 tons in October 2013 against 96,730 tons reported in September 2013, as per provisional data available with ICMW.

With this, steam coal imports via Kolkata during the first seven (April-October) months of 2013-14 stood at 1583,823 tons as against 952,492 tons registered in the same period last year (April-September) 2012.

The import of the commodity in October 2012 was at 70,790 tons in. Total imports in 2012-13 amounted to 1,696,998 tons.

In October 2013, imports included 6,780 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,529 – Rs 3,131 ($40.65-$50.33) per ton and the balance 7,022 tons arrived from South Africa in a price band of Rs 5,089 – Rs 6,270 ($81.80-$100) per ton.

In September, however, 90,730 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 3,161 – Rs 4,575 ($48 -$72 ) per ton and 6,000 tons came in from South Africa in a price range of Rs  5,799  – Rs 6,216 ($91-$93) per ton.

However, in August 2013, 199,365 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,553 – Rs 4,602 ($41-$75) per ton and 4,000 tons came in from South Africa in a price range of Rs 6093 – Rs 6,551 ($99-$106) per ton.
