Steam coal imports via Mormugao up 14.08% in June m-o-m

July 28: Steam coal imports through the port of Mormugao rose 14.08% to 209,928 tons in June 2014, against 184,018 tons reported in May, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In June 2013, the volume of steam coal import through the port stood at nil.

In the first three months of the current financial year (2014-15), coking coal import through the port stood at 423,946 tons as against nil import recorded during the same period of 2013-14.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mormugao in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In June 2014, 83,067 tons came in from Australia at a price range of Rs 7,523 ($124) per ton whereas the rest of 126,861 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,108-Rs 5,733 ($85-$96) per ton.

On the other hand, in May 2014, 101,616 tons came in from Australia at a price of Rs 6,596 ($108) per ton while 82,402 tons came in from Mozambique at a price of Rs 5,453 ($90) per ton.
