Steam coal imports via Mormugao up sharply in May m-o-m

July 1: Imports of non-coking (steam) coal via Mormugao Port stood at 184,018 tons during May, sharply up by about six times as compared to 30,000 tons recorded during the previous month, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
However, in May 2013, non-coking coal imports via the port stood at nil.
Following are the month-wise details of non-coking coal imports via Mormugao Port during 2013-14 and 2014-15:

During May 2014, 101,616 tons came in from Australia at a price of Rs 6,596 ($108) per ton while the rest of 82,402 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 5,453 ($90) per ton.
However, in April 2014, the entire material came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,896-Rs 4,932 ($81) per ton whereas during March 2014, the entire material came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,307-Rs 6,270 ($86-$101) per ton.
