Steam coal imports via Mumbai drop 47% in Aug m-o-m

September 18: Steam coal imports through the port of Mumbai decreased 46.88% to 215,496 tons in August 2014 against a volume of 405,740 tons reported in July, as per information available with ICMW.
Imports of the material in August 2013 stood at 349,972 tons.
With this, in the first five months of the current financial year (2014-15), non-coking coal imports through the port stood revised at 1,730,177 tons compared to 1,589,340 tons imported during the same period of 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mumbai in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In August, all the consignments arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 3,206 – Rs 4,865 ($52-80) per ton.
In July, 364,440 tons arrived from Indonesia at unit prices ranging from Rs 3,333 – Rs 4,708 ($55-$148), while the balance 41,300 tons came in from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 4,712 ($680).
