Steam coal imports via Mumbai up 11.48% in May m-o-m

June 16: Steam coal imports through the port of Mumbai increased 11.48% to 442,256 tons in May 2014, against a quantum of 396,684 tons reported in April, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In March 2014, the volume of non- coking coal import through the port stood at 335,732 tons.
Imports of the material in May 2013 stood at 497,370 tons.
In the first two months of the current financial year (2014-15), non-coking coal import through the port stood at 838,940 tons as against 676,467 tons imported during the same period of 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mumbai in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In May, 44,516 tons of coal arrived from Australia at Rs 5,114 ($ 85) per ton and 397,740 tons arrived from Indonesia at a price band of Rs 4,680-3,520($58-$78) per ton.
In April, all the consignments arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 3,600 – Rs 5,203 ($59-86) per ton.
