Steam coal imports via Mumbai up 46.68% in July m-o-m

August 29: Steam coal imports through the port of Mumbai were at 334,717 tons in July 2013 against 228,184 tons recorded in June 2013, showing a rise of 46.68%, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With this, total imports of steam coal during the first four months of 2013-14 stood at 1,239,368 tons against 1,920,555 tons registered during the corresponding period of 2012-13.
Steam coal imports in July 2012 were, however, higher at 426,573 tons.
Total steam coal imports via Mumbai in 2012-13 stood at 4,407,185 tons.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mumbai in 2012-13 and 2013-14:

In July 2013, 33,699 tons of steam coal arrived from Australia at Rs 5,266 ($87) per ton, while 301,017 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 3,800 – Rs 5,222 _$63-$88) per ton.
In June 2013, however, the entire consignment arrived from Indonesia in a price range of Rs 2,932 – Rs 4,941 ($50-$87).
