Steam coal imports via Mumbai up 72.81% in March m-o-m

April 28: Steam coal imports through the port of Mumbai increased 72.81% to 335,732 tons in March 2014 against a volume of 194,278 tons reported in the preceding month of February, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With this, total imports of steam coal during the full fiscal of 2013-14 stood at 3,922,076 tons against 4,407,185 tons registered during the previous fiscal of 2012-13.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mumbai in 2012-13 and 2013-14:

March imports included 281,708 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 3,417 - Rs 4,840 ($54-$78) per ton and the balance 54,024 tons from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 5,489 ($89).
In February 2014, all the consignments arrived from Indonesia in a price range of Rs 3,831 - Rs 4,855 ($61-$77) per ton.
