Steam coal imports via Mundra fall 12.4% in August

September 9: Steam coal imports through the port of Mundra fell 12.4% to 1,557,091 tons in August 2013, from 1,777,534 tons in July, 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The import of steam coal in the first five months of 2013-14 stood at 8,899,177 tons against 3,333,294 tons recorded in the same period in the previous financial year.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mundra in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In August 2013, 1,389,591 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,251-Rs 5,319 ($34-$81) per ton while 167,500 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,124-Rs 5,279 ($83-$85) per ton.
However, during July 2013, 1,695,036 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,692-Rs 5,685 ($45-$95) per ton while 82,498 tons came from South Africa at a price of Rs 5,434 ($90) per ton.
