Steam coal imports via Mundra fall 22% in Aug m-o-m

September 23: Steam coal imports through the port of Mundra fell 21.86% to 1,732,962 tons in August 2014 from 2,217,831 tons reported in July 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

In August 2013, steam coal imports via the port stood at 1,557,091 tons.

Total imports of non-coking coal through Mundra Port during the first five months of 2014-15 stood at 10,291,981 tons against 8,899,177 tons reported during the same period of the previous financial year.

Following is the monthly break-up of non-coking coal imports via Mundra Port in 2014-15 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In August 2014, a volume of 1,354,574  tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,803-Rs 5,161 ($46-$85) per ton, 22 tons came from Iran at a price of Rs 5,399 ($87) per ton, 163,339 tons came from South Africa at a price of Rs 5,833 ($95-$96) whereas the balance 215,027 tons came in from the US at a price range of Rs 5,949-Rs 6,468 ($96-$105) per ton.

However, during July, 1,788,814  tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,248-Rs 5,030 ($54-$84) per ton, 73,200 tons came from Mozambique at a price of Rs 4,945 ($82) per ton, 239,032 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,824-Rs 5,830 ($96-$97) per ton whereas 116,785 tons came from the US at a price range of Rs 5,849-Rs 6,043 (97-$101) per ton.
