Steam coal imports via Mundra fall 8.32% in Feb m-o-m

March 14: Steam coal imports through the port of Mundra fell 8.32% to 1,680,164 tons in February 2014 from 1,832,711 tons reported in January 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

Steam coal imports through the port stood at 1,996,825 tons in February 2013.  

The import of steam coal through Mundra in the first 11 months (April-February) of 2013-14 stood at 18,195,248 tons against 11,343,482 tons recorded in the same period in the previous financial year.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mundra in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

During February, 1,609,409 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 1,688 - Rs 5,024 ($27-$80) per ton while the rest of 70,755 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,383 - Rs 6,262 ($86-$99) per ton.

However, in January 2014, a volume of 1,640,523 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,180 - Rs 5,050 ($51-$81) per ton, 101,283 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,319 - Rs 6,348 ($86-$102) per ton while the rest of 90,905 tons came from the US at a price range of Rs 7,117 - Rs 7,272 ($114-$117) per ton.
