Steam coal imports via Mundra sharply up in March

April 17: Non-coking coal imports through Mundra Port increased sharply to 2,157,546 tons in March compared to 1,123,561 tons imported in February 2015, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In March 2014, steam coal imports through the port stood at 1,702,284 tons.
In 2014-15, steam coal imports through the port stood at 22,781,666 tons, up 14.50% from 19,897,532 tons imported in the previous fiscal.
Following is the monthly break-up of non-coking coal imports via Mundra Port in 2014-15 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In March, 1,956,854 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,232-Rs 4,692 ($51-$75) per ton, 85,117 tons came from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 5,088 ($81) while the balance 115,575 came from the United States at a price range of Rs 5,849-Rs 5,983 ($93-$95).
In February, 500 tons came from Australia at a price of Rs 4,646/ton ($74/ton), 1,048,061 tons from Indonesia at various prices and 75,000 tons at Rs 5,059/ton ($81/ton).
