Steam coal imports via Mundra up 1.32% in March m-o-m

April 15: Steam coal imports through the port of Mundra went up 1.32% to 1,702,284 tons in March 2014 from 1,680,164 tons reported in February 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

Steam coal imports through the port stood at 694,988 tons in March 2013.  

The import of steam coal through Mundra during 2013-14 stood at 19,897,532 tons against 12,038,470 tons recorded in the same period of the previous financial year.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mundra in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In March 2014, 1,559,043 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 2,227-Rs 4,949 ($36-$80) per ton, 31,000 tons came from South Africa at Rs 5,280-Rs 6,196 ($86-$100) per ton while the rest of 112,241 tons came from the US at a price range of Rs 7,018-Rs 7,391 ($114-$120) per ton.

However, during February, 1,609,409 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 1,688-Rs 5,024 ($27-$80) per ton while the balance 70,755 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,383-Rs 6,262 ($86-$99) per ton.
