Steam coal imports via Mundra up 34.78% in Jan m-o-m

February 17: Steam coal imports through the port of Mundra rose 34.78% to 1,832,711 tons in January 2014 from 1,359,755 tons reported in December 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

Steam coal imports through the port stood at 1,692,220 tons during January 2013.  

The import of steam coal through Mundra in the first 10 months (April-January) of 2013-14 stood at 16,515,084 tons against 9,346,657 tons recorded in the same period in the previous financial year.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Mundra in 2012-13 and 2013-14 (in tons):

In January 2014, 1,640,523 tons came in from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3,180-Rs 5,050 ($51-$81) per ton, 101,283 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,319-Rs 6,348 ($86-$102) per ton while the rest of 90,905 tons came from USA at a price range of Rs 7,117-Rs 7,272 ($114-$117) per ton.

However, during December 2013, 1,193,845 tons came in from Indonesia in a price range of Rs 2,947-Rs 6,136 ($47-$98) per ton, 57,000 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 5,327-Rs 6,136 ($86-$98) per ton while 108,910 tons came in from the US in a price range of Rs 7,000-Rs 7,225 ($111-$114) per ton.
