Steam coal imports via New Mangalore almost treble in Dec m-o-m

January 8: Steam coal imports through the port of New Mangalore almost trebled in December 2013 to 501,826 tons compared to 163,883 tons reported in November, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
The import of steam coal through the port during first nine months of FY'14 stood at 3,295,230 tons, down from 4,155,743 tons in the corresponding period last year.
Following is the monthly break-up of non-coking coal imports via New Mangalore:

In December 2013, 322,921 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 4,639-Rs 6,041 ($74-$97) per ton while the rest of 178,905 tons came in from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4,400-Rs 6,265 ($71-$101) per ton.
However, during November 2013, 57,555 tons came from South Africa at a price range of Rs 4566-Rs 5555 ($72-$88) per ton while 106,328 tons came from Indonesia at a price range of Rs 3112-Rs 6381 ($49-$101) per ton.
