Steam coal imports via Vizag decline 49.72% in Feb m-o-m

March 12: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag dropped a sharp 49.72% to 488,921 tons in February 2014 against 972,422 tons in January 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
With this, the total volume of coal imported in the first 11 months of the current fiscal from Vizag Port were at 3,503,709 tons against 4,491,400 tons reported in the same period of the previous fiscal.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Vizag Port in 2012-13 and 2013-14

In February, all the steam coal import consignments were from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 2,972 – Rs 5,183 ($47 - $83) per ton.
In January 2014, a quantity of 868,283 tons arrived from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 3,200 – Rs 5,003 ($51-$80) per ton while the balance 104,139 tons came in from South Africa at a unit price of 5,704 ($92).
