Steam coal imports via Vizag drop 36.57% m-o-m in May

June 11: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag fell 36.57% to 731,851 tons in May, 2014 as against 1,153,955 tons of stem coal imported in April 2014, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In March, the volume of steam coal imported through the port stood at 531,518 tons.
In May 2013, steam coal import through Vizag Port stood at 415,566 tons.
In the first two months of the current financial year (2014-15) steam coal import through the port stood at 1,885,806 tons as against 540,816 tons imported during the same period of 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Vizag Port in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In May, steam coal imports via Vizag comprised several consignments but only from Indonesia in a price range of Rs 3,200- Rs 4,375 ($53-$79) per ton.
In April, imports included 1,106,444 tons from Indonesia in a price band of Rs 1,713- Rs 4,237 ($28-70) per ton, and 47,511 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,467- Rs 6,060 ($74-100) per ton.
