Steam coal imports via Vizag up 40% in Sept m-o-m

October 9: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag increased 39.55% to 955,106 tons in September 2014 against a volume of 684,380 tons reported in August, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In September 2013, steam coal imports through Vizag Port stood several times lower at 133,362 tons.
Consequently, steam coal imports through the port for the first six months of the current financial year (2014-15) stood at 4,783,756 tons as against 1,528,266 tons imported during the same period in 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Vizag Port in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In September, 568,566 tons arrived from Indonesia in a band of Rs 2,323 – Rs 4,803 ($38-78) per ton, 109,586 tons from Chile at a unit price of Rs 3,612 ($59) per ton, 213,348 tons from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,290 – Rs 5,620 ($69-92) per ton and the balance 63,606 tons from Australia in a band of Rs 4,013 – Rs 4,777 (66-78) per ton.
In August, 571,880 tons arrived from Indonesia in a band of Rs 2,712 – Rs 4,721 ($44-76) per ton, while the balance 102,500 tons came in from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,772 – Rs 5,413 ($77-88) per ton.
