Steam coal imports via Vizag up 8.60% in Aug m-o-m

September 11: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag increased 8.60% to 684,380 tons in August 2014 against a volume of 630,158 tons reported in July, as per provisional information available with ICMW.
In August 2013, steam coal imports through Vizag Port stood much lower at 190,870 tons.
Consequently, steam coal imports through the port for the first five months of the current financial year (2014-15) stood at 3,828,650 tons as against 1,394,904 tons imported during the same period in 2013-14.
Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Vizag Port in 2013-14 and 2014-15:

In August, 571,880 tons arrived from Indonesia in a band of Rs 2,712 – Rs 4,721 ($44-76) per ton, while the balance 102,500 tons came in from South Africa in a range of Rs 4,772 – Rs 5,413 ($77-88) per ton.
In July, however, 133,629 tons arrived from Chile in a price band of Rs 3,546 – Rs 3,583 ($59-60), 488,280 tons from Indonesia in a range of Rs 3,200- Rs 5,268 ($53-87) and the balance 8,250 tons from South Africa at a unit price of Rs 5,960 ($99).
