Steam coal imports via Vizag up 8.71% in March m-o-m

April 11: Steam coal imports through the port of Vizag rose 8.71% to 531,518 tons in March 2014 against a volume of 488,921 tons reported in the previous month of February, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

With this, the total volume of coal imported in the entire financial year of 2013-14 from Vizag Port were at 4,035,227 tons against 4,723,745 tons reported in the same period of the previous fiscal.

Consequently, there was a drop of 14.57% in the quantum of coal imported through this port in the just-concluded fiscal over the previous financial year of 2012-13.

Following is the monthly break-up of steam coal imports via Vizag Port in 2012-13 and 2013-14

In March, steam coal imports via Vizag comprised several consignments from Indonesia in a price range of Rs 3,200- Rs 4,232 ($51-$68) per ton.

In February too, all the steam coal import consignments were from Indonesia but in a price band of Rs 2,972 – Rs 5,183 ($47 - $83) per ton.
