Steel Minister meets Goa and Rajasthan CM on MMDR Act amendment

July 4: Union Minister of Steel, Mines and Labour & Employment Narendra Singh Tomar, has sought opinion of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on the proposed amendment of the Mines and Minerals (Development & Regulation) Act, 1957 (MMDR Act 1957), said an official statement issued by the Ministry of Mines.
In two separate meetings with Parrikar and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on July 3, Tomar along with key ministry officials discussed various issues relating to iron ore mining and the steel industry in respective states.
A meeting with Chief Minister of Karnataka is scheduled to be held on July 4.
Earlier, in an effort to find out ‘expeditious and acceptable solutions’ to the mining issues confronting the country, Tomar sought views from Chief Ministers of various states on amendments to the MMDR Act. The Act provides the legislative framework which governs the mining sector in the country.
Tomar is scheduled to meet Chief Ministers of some states this week and also visit other states in the first half of the month.
