Stricter Indonesian export norms impact loading

24 Jan 2014

January 24: A number of merchant vessels, not complying with IUP OPK (logistics and trading/export license) had to stop loading coal from Indonesian ports on January 24 following tightening of export rules, a brokerage house said in its report.

"A number of merchant vessels had to stop loading as soon as the Indonesian Directorate General of Customs and Excise confirmed the regulation to be followed for coal loading from Banjarmasin, Taboneo, Kotabaru, Muara Satui," the report said.

More than 160 vessels are expected to open in February for Indonesia-South Asia, partly due to an ore export ban that indicates further softening in freight rates, the report added.
