TANGEDCO floats tender to procure 5 mt imported coal

June 4: The Tamil Nadu Generation & Distribution Corporation Ltd (TANGEDCO), the power generation arm of the government of Tamil Nadu, has floated a tender to procure guaranteed quantity of 5 million tons (mt) of imported steam coal of any origin from September 2014 to March 2015.
Of the total quantity, the company will take delivery of 4 mt, plus shipping tolerance, at Kamarajar Port (formerly Ennore Port) or Karaikal Port at purchasers option and the balance 1 mt at VOC Port (formerly Tuticorin Port).
TANGEDCO is using imported coal to make up for the shortfall in supply of indigenous coal to its thermal power stations.
The company is looking to procure coal with total moisture (ARB) of 7-23%, inherent moisture (ADB) of 4-14%, ash (ADB) 2-8%, FC (ADB) – 30-50%, VM (ADB) – 25-42%, GCV (ADB)- 5,800-6,700 Kcal/kg, GCV (ARB)- 5,400-6,300 Kcal/kg, NCV (ARB) – 5,100-6,000 Kcal/kg, Size 0-50 mm.
The last date for submission of bids is July 4, 2014.
TANGEDCO has been given a target to import 4.50 mt of coal in 2014-15. The company had imported 5.90 mt of coal in 2013-14 as against the target of 2.40 mt, according to information available with ICMW.
