TN seeks adequate supply of coal

Tamil Nadu has urged the Centre to ensure adequate supply of coal and allotment of railway coaches for its transportation.
State Minister for Electricity P. Thangamani and Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco), M. Sai Kumar called on Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal in New Delhi and made the request, an official release said.
Mr. Thangamani requested the Union Minister to allot coal on a daily basis, as the State requires 72,000 tonnes of coal to generate power at the thermal power stations owned by the electricity board, and also allot 20 railway coaches for transportation of the coal to the State, the release added.
Mr. Thangamani also met Union Power Minister R.K. Singh and requested him to speed up the process of setting up the ultra mega power plant in Cheyyur.
He also sought the allocation of the entire 2000 MW for Tamil Nadu from the Phase 3 and Phase 4 of the Kudankulam nuclear power project. Mr. Thangamani also sought a grant of ₹17,000 crore for strengthening the infrastructure to ensure electricity supply in case of cyclones.
