April 1: The captive coal berth of Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) at Kamarajar Port, with a capacity of 9 million tons per annum (coal berth 3), is likely to start operation in the second quarter of 2016-17, according to information available with ICMW.
Construction of the Rs 198.95-crore project will start shortly. Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) or erstwhile Ennore Port Limited was awarded the project in December 2013.
Earlier, considering the expansion of the existing thermal power plants of TNEB and new TNEB-NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation Limited) JV project, TNEB requested KPL to establish additional coal berths.
