January 13: Imports of steam coal by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) in December 2014 stood at 793,000 tons (revised by CEA), which was much above the month’s target of 375,000 tons, according to data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-basis, the December import figure was 5.48% lower than 839,000 tons imported in November and much higher compared to 563,000 tons imported in December 2013.
The utility’s total coal imports during the first nine months of 2014-15 stood at 6,436,000 tons, up more than 52.12% compared to 4,231,000 tons during the same period of 2013-14.
