TNEB’s May coal imports up 13.26% m-o-m, 29% y-o-y

June 16: The import of steam coal by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) in May 2014 stood at 760,000 tons, up 13.26% from 671,000 tons imported in April 2014, and nearly 80% higher than the target of 375,000 tons for the month, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The import figure of April 2014 has been revised from 670,000 tons reported earlier by CEA.
The import in May this year was nearly 29% higher compared to only 591,000 tons in May 2013 and also higher against the target of 375,000 tons, according to the data.
With the revision in April imports, the utilities total coal import during the first two months of 2014-15 stood at 1,431,000 tons, up more than 60% as compared to 899,000 tons during the same period of 2013-14.
