November 19: Imports of steam coal by Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) in October 2014 stood at 763,000 tons, which was much above the month’s target of 375,000 tons, according to data available with ICMW.
On a month-on-basis, the October import figure was 14.22% higher than 668,000 tons imported in September and 26.52% higher compared to 528,000 tons imported in October 2013.
The utility’s total coal imports during the first seven months of 2014-15 stood at 4,804,000 tons, up more than 46.06% compared to 3,289,000 tons during the same period of 2013-14.
